Season of the Crone pt. 3
Working with the Crone in the Mother Era - part 3 of 3
The Mother
After breaking free of the patriarchy, it doesn’t sit well to find out that in the spiritual world you’re still standing in the role of Mother.
See, the patriarchy kept the Mother energy, because the Mother energy was focused on others and others get to define the Mother. They twisted the Mother to fit their narrative, to control women. They made the entire process of growing from baby into mother about the mother you’d become.
According to them, being a mother was the only role and job that gave a woman’s life meaning.
Mothers in the patriarchal view are taught to be nothing else. Women are told that if they want more they must become more. The patriarchy taught us that when the kids are grown and out of the house that we no longer have worth, because our one value, our one job, was done.
This leads to women asking, ‘what now?’.
There are those that ask this question who are still very young because they had their children earlier in their life. They then begin to view themselves as ugly and old. They start to feel like no man will want them and that they are past their pretty and useful age.
It would be a terrible feeling that your life is done and that your worth is gone when you still have many years to go. It would feel like an endless journey in today’s fast-moving world, full of instant gratification.
In a way it, would feel like purgatory, just floating around waiting for the next era to come so that you can have value again or at the very least, be the one that chooses how you get to live your life. The Crone era starts looking like the final piece to freedom from of the patriarchal mother. So, too soon some claim Crone.
Embracing the Crone for these reasons continues the stereotypical narrative of the patriarchal Crone. At the same time, it dismisses and disempowers the spiritual Mother. Allowing the patriarchy to keep winning.
The Mother era is the longest era in a woman’s life because there is an evolution to the Mother that involves more than raising children.
The mother is a powerful and awe-inspiring energy. She is a creator of life, space, ideas, and magic. She is a bridge between new life and death. She the manager making sure everything is looked after. She’s a fierce protector and warrior. She’ll move mountains for those she loves to get what they need.
She is the nurturer that holds a compassionate and safe space for vulnerability and healing. She is filled with unconditional love for her children, others, and every cause she cares for. She has a fine-tuned intuition that allows her to better assist those that she cares for, she just knows what they need.
Most importantly she is in service to others, and she knows the difference between servitude and service.
Servitude the energy that the patriarchal mother holds. She is in servitude to everyone meaning she is a salve to all, with no free will. Her life holds no value but to be obedient, serve, and to bear children.
Being of service or in serve to others means that there is choose and decision that’s given to the spiritual Mother. She has free will. She chooses who or what is deserving of that service. She has learned to balance the needs of her inner Maiden through self-care so that she has the energy to help those in need.
Daily practice of self-care and serving others provides the Mother with the tools she’ll need to be a carefree Crone.
Reflection of Mother Earth
Have you ever wondered why those in their Mother eras suddenly have a deeper love and appreciation for Earth Mother and all her creatures?
The Mother, Mother Earth. We see start to unconsciously see ourselves in the reflection of Mother Earth.
Being in the Mother era allows us to live as a reflection of Mother Earth. Mother Earth is a creator, the force of nature, and she is happy be of service to us all.
She provides the life-giving waters, plants, air, fire, dirt, creatures, and stones that we need to survive. She offers safe spaces for us to be our wild carefree selves. She fills us with her energy. She inspires us with her beauty and so much more.
Mother Earth is continually trying to fix our mistakes. We, her children disrespect and trash her house. Yet she still holds so much love and compassion for us, offering us all we need to have an abundant life.
Mother Earth only sees her husband (Sun) for half the day, and she only finds silence under the cover of night, while the Moon is high and the children rest.
We have the opportunity to learn from Mother Earth. Mother Earth watches as her children make choices that she would not agree with and knows it’s not going to work out well for us. In her wisdom she allows us to figure it out on our own. Climate change, air pollution, and how we grow food are just a few that come to mind.
Yet, when we call out to Mother Earth for help, she doesn’t respond with “I told you so” or “look at what you’ve done”. She sends back unconditional love, grace and compassion. She holds us in love to give us the strength we need to carry on. Teaching us that the more we connect with her, the more we’ll learn.
We learn from Mother Earth’s ebb and flow of seasons. Watching her as she gracefully embraces the changes that are needed to create new life and let go of the old.
Evolving our understanding of love, joy, happiness, pain, sorrow and grief. Not only for the Earth but within the lives of our children.
Mother Earth also teaches us that the title of Mother means more than someone who births a child. We are all her children, so are the plants, the creatures, the waters and the stones.
Depths of the Mother
Birthing biological children isn’t the requirement to be in the Mother era. Some of us have experienced firsthand that birthing a child doesn’t mean you are a mother.
I wanted to be a mother, but it wasn’t until I was in the Mother era that I realized rising children wasn’t for me. I considered this Mother era to be a wash because I chose not to have children.
How could I, a non-mother understand the Mother era? In the patriarchal view I wouldn’t.
Looking at it through the spiritual lens there is so much depth of Mother era that still needs explored. As a childless mother, (well besides my fur baby) I have a unique opportunity to explore all the other aspects and areas of the Mother.
Like the fierce mother warrior, (some call this Divine Rage). She suffers no fools and stands up for injustice, in ways that births effective change.
Or the humanitarian that makes sure the hungry are feed, the homeless have roofs over their heads and clothes on their backs.
Or the community organizer that brings the community together.
Or the one that dedicates their life to service in whatever compacity that looks like for them.
Or the nurturer that holds nonjudgmental space for vulnerability and growth.
Or the creator that births ideas either for themselves or for others.
As I explore the Spiritual Mother, I’ve found that all these energies are within each Mother and I will most likely find more. The Mother Era allows us to find these pieces of ourselves. To transform our sovereignty from being just about us and our inner world into the sovereignty of our purpose and the world around us.
It’s time to reclaim the Mother.
